Why Is This Important?

According to the Survey of Violence Victimization in New Mexico conducted in 2007, 1 in 4 (24%) New Mexican adults, and 1 in 3 adult females (32%) will be victims of domestic violence in their lifetime. One-third of domestic violence cases reported to law enforcement resulted in injury to the victim; and 18% of the total homicides in New Mexico were related to domestic violence.
