Health Indicator Report of Injury - Sexual Violence

Sexual violence has an profound impact on physical and mental health. As well as causing physical injury, the impact on mental health can be as serious as its physical impact and may be equally long lasting. Sexual violence can also profoundly affect the social well being of victims by their families and others as a consequence.


These data represent sexual penetration crimes reported to law enforcement. The majority of sexual assault are not reported to the police (an average of 68% of assaults in the US between 2008 - 2012 were not reported).
