Vital Records, Birth and Death Data Queries

Dataset Name and Link Description
Birth Dataset New Mexico live births, including infant sex, gestational age, and birthweight, maternal age, race/ethnicity, county and small area of residence, prenatal care, type of facility where the birth took place and what type of care provider attended the birth. Data for national comparisons are available. The Birth Certificate data are maintained by the New Mexico Department of Health, Bureau of Vital Records and Health Statistics.
Death Dataset New Mexico deaths, including decedent's age, race/ethnicity, county and small area of residence, and underlying cause of death. Data for national comparisons are available. The Death Certificate data are maintained by the New Mexico Department of Health, Bureau of Vital Records and Health Statistics.
Infant Mortality Infants deaths per 1,000 live births. Similar to Death Certificate Dataset, but with a focus on infant (age 0 through 364 days) mortality and its causes.
Small Area Birth and Death Queries Birth and Death queries by New Mexico's 108 small areas. These queries require geocoded data, so they are typically a year behind the county queries for births and deaths. The birth and death data are maintained by the New Mexico Department of Health, Bureau of Vital Records and Health Statistics. The small area queries are prepared for presentation in NM-IBIS by the New Mexico Department of Health, Community Health Assessment Program.
Social Determinants of Health (SDH) Birth and Death Queries Birth and Death queries by New Mexico's 108 small areas. These queries require geocoded data, so they are typically a year behind the county queries for births and deaths. The birth and death data are maintained by the New Mexico Department of Health, Bureau of Vital Records and Health Statistics. The SDH queries are prepared for presentation in NM-IBIS by the New Mexico Department of Health, Community Health Assessment Program.


Health Surveys

Dataset Name and Link Description
Behavioral Risk Factors Surveillance System (BRFSS) Survey Health status and behaviors of New Mexico adults, including doctor diagnosed chronic conditions, health care coverage, smoking and alcohol consumption, preventive health care exams, and physical activity and nutrition, obesity and overweight. Data were collected through telephone surveys and are representative of non-institutionalized New Mexico adults with landlines or cellphones. Data for national comparisons are available for most items. The BRFSS data are maintained by the New Mexico Department of Health, Injury and Behavioral Epidemiology Bureau, Survey Unit.
Pregnancy Risk Assessment and Monitoring System (PRAMS) Survey Dataset contains information on the preconception, pregnancy and delivery experiences of New Mexico women who recently gave birth, including the mother's age, and race/ethnicity, health insurance coverage, pregnancy intention and contraception, stress factors or support during pregnancy, breastfeeding practices and barriers, prenatal care, health or case management services, postpartum health and infant care. Data for comparisons with selected other states are available for many items. The PRAMS data are maintained by the New Mexico Department of Health, Family Health Bureau.
Youth Risk and Resiliency Survey (YRRS) Health status and behaviors of New Mexico high school students, including grade, sex, county of residence and race/ethnicity of the student, use of alcohol, tobacco, and drugs, physical violence, physical activity and nutrition, obesity and overweight. Data were collected through paper-and-pencil surveys conducted in the classroom and are representative of New Mexico public high school students in grades 9-12. Data for national comparisons are available for most items. The YRRS data are maintained by the New Mexico Department of Health, Injury and Behavioral Epidemiology Bureau, Survey Unit.


Morbidity Data

Dataset Name and Link Description
Infectious Disease Information for 25 notifiable conditions among New Mexico residents, the month and week of diagnosis, and the age, sex, county of residence and race/ethnicity of the infected person. Data for national comparisons are available. The Infectious Disease data are maintained by the New Mexico Department of Health, Infectious Disease Epidemiology Bureau.
Cancer Incidence Information for cancer diagnoses among New Mexico residents, the cancer site and stage at diagnosis, and the age, sex, county of residence and race/ethnicity of the person. Cancer incidence data are part of the Surveilance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) program and are maintained and provided by the New Mexico Tumor Registry at UNM.
Hospital Inpatient Discharge Data (HIDD) Inpatient hospital stays in New Mexico hospitals, including patient's age, race/ethnicity, and county of residence, reason for hospitalization, hospital procedures, length of stay, payer and discharge status. Data for national comparisons are available. The HIDD are maintained by the New Mexico Department of Health, Health Systems Epidemiology Program and prepared for presentation in NM-IBIS by the New Mexico Department of Health, Environmental Health Epidemiology Bureau.
Injury Hospitalizations Same as HIDD Dataset, but with a focus on injury causes of death and intent (suicide, homicide and unintentional injury).
Hospital Emergency Department Visits Data (ED) Outpatient emergency department visits to New Mexico hospitals, including patient's age, race/ethnicity, and county of residence and reason for emergency department visit. Data for comparison with selected other states are available. The ED data are maintained by the New Mexico Department of Health, Health Systems Epidemiology Program and prepared for presentation in NM-IBIS by the New Mexico Department of Health, Environmental Health Epidemiology Bureau.


Environmental Data

Dataset Name and Link Description
Drinking Water Quality Dataset Information on the average and maximum concentration of 10 water system contaminants for 622 New Mexico community water systems. The Drinking Water Quality data are maintained by the New Mexico Department of Health, Environmental Health Epidemiology Bureau.


Demographic Characteristics

Dataset Name and Link Description
U.S. Census Bureau, American Community Survey Demographic characteristics of New Mexico persons and households from the American Community Survey for counties, census tracts and 108 New Mexico Small Areas. Measures include median income, poverty, employment, disability, veteran status, presence of children in the household and prevalence of English language proficiency. Data for national comparisons are available. The Census Demographic Characteristics data are maintained by the U.S. Bureau of the Census, and prepared for presentation in NM-IBIS by the New Mexico Department of Health, Community Health Assessment Program.
Population Estimates Population size estimates for New Mexico counties, small areas and census tracts for 1990 through 2012 by age, sex, and race/ethnicity. The Population Estimates data are maintained by the University of New Mexico, Geospatial and Population Studies Program, and prepared for presentation in NM-IBIS by the New Mexico Department of Health, Community Health Assessment Program.
