Birth Count
Count of all live births in a given population and time period. - Crude Birth Rate - Births per 1,000 Population (Males and Females)
Birth Rate
Birth rate is the number of live births per 1,000 persons in the population. - Age-specific Birth Rate - Births per 1,000 Females
Age-specific Birth Rate
The age-specific birth rate is the number of live births per 1,000 female population. The teen birth rate is considered an age-specific birth rate. - Teen Births, Girls Age 15-19Age Specific Fertility Rates (e.g., Adolescent Birth Rates)
An age-specific fertility rate is the number of births to women in a certain age group per 1,000 women in that same age group (e.g., births to adolescent mothers per 1,000 adolescent girls of the same age in the population). Birth Weight
Very Low Birth Weight: Live-born infants whose birth weight was less than 1500 grams (about 3.3 lbs.)
Low Birth Weight: Live-born infants whose birth weight was at least 1500 grams but less than 2500 grams (about 5.5 lbs.)
Normal Birth Weight: Live-born infants whose birth weight was at least 2500 grams but less than 4,000 grams
High Birth Weight: Live-born infants whose birth weight was 4,000 or more grams (about 8.8 lbs.)Prenatal Care Recommendations
It is recommended that pregnant women begin prenatal care during their first three months (first trimester) of pregnancy.Preterm Births
A Preterm birth is a birth that occurs before the 37th week of gestation.
- Deaths - Count
Count
This module returns the number of deaths. Crude Rate
This module returns the number of deaths, the number in the population, the crude death rate (deaths per 100,000 persons), and the upper and lower 95% confidence interval limits for the rate.- Standard Query
Moving Averages
Moving averages are used to "smooth" trend lines that would otherwise be unstable. Often, the population size will be too small to yield a smooth trend line. By combining multiple years, the data will be more stable. "Moving averages" are overlapping, aggregated year groups. They are overlapped so that more data points may be displayed, and also so the line shows changes more gradually.
Age-Adjusted Rates
This module returns the number of deaths, the number in the population, the age-adjusted death rate (deaths per 100,000 persons, age-standardized to the U.S. 2000 population), and the upper and lower 95% confidence interval limits for the rate.- Standard Query

Leading Causes of Death
This query returns deaths for the 15 leading causes of death in New Mexico, based on the number of deaths and the NCHS groupings for "50 Rankable Causes of Death."- Leading Causes: Counts
Leading Causes of Death by Count
This module calculates the number of deaths for the NCHS 50 leading causes of death. You can sort the death rates on the results page to get the leading causes.
You can filter the data by year, age, sex, and geographic area. - Leading Causes: Crude Rates
Leading Causes of Death by Crude Rate
This module calculates death rates (number of deaths per 100,000) for the NCHS 50 leading causes of death. You can sort the death rates on the results page to get the leading causes.
You can filter the data by year, age, sex, and geographic area. - Leading Causes: Age-adjusted Rates
Leading Causes of Death by Age-Adjusted Rate
This module calculates age-adjusted death rates (number of deaths per 100,000, age-standardized to the U.S. 2000 population) for the NCHS 50 leading causes of death. You can sort the death rates on the results to get the leading causes.
You can filter the data by year, sex, and geographic area.
Life Expectancy
These queries return average life expectancy for the population selected. For information on life expectancy calculation, please visit the NM-IBIS Life Expectancy page.- Life Table
Life Table
This module returns the expected number of years of life remaining for persons of a given age, at five-year age intervals. - Life Expectancy from Birth
Life Expectancy From Birth
This module returns the expected number of years of life from birth. - Life Expectancy from Age 65
Life Expectancy From Age 65
This module returns the expected number of years of life from age 65.
YPLL
This query returns the Years of Potential Life Lost (YPLL) for the selected population and condition(s). "Years of Potential Life Lost" is calculated as 75 minus a person's age at time of death.- Number of Years of Potential Life Lost (YPLL) Before Age 75
- YPLL Before Age 75 per 100,000 Population, Standard Query
Moving Averages
Moving averages are used to "smooth" trend lines that would otherwise be unstable. Often, the population size will be too small to yield a smooth trend line. By combining multiple years, the data will be more stable. "Moving averages" are overlapping, aggregated year groups. They are overlapped so that more data points may be displayed, and also so the line shows changes more gradually.
- Average Age at Time of Death
Average Age at Time of Death
This module returns the average age at death. You can filter or group the data by cause of death, year, age, sex, and geographic area.
